ENUMERATE Stakeholder Report 2

ENUMERATE Stakeholder Report 1

Early 2013 the ENUMERATE network carried out the “Thematic Survey” on:

- Costs of digitisation of cultural heritage,
- Access/Use of digital heritage,
- Size of digital heritage collections
- Digital Preservation.

More information about the four parts of the Thematic Survey can be read in ENUMERATE Newsletter 4.

In preparation of the Thematic Survey several expert meetings were held to discuss the different topics. The meetings were:

- 27 January 2012, The Hague: Size and Growth of Digital Collections
- 30 March 2012, London: Cost of Digital Collections
- 6 June 2012, Madrid: Access/Use of Digital Collections
- 17 January 2013, The Hague: Focus Group Digital Preservation.

More information about the meetings’ results can be read in ENUMERATE Newsletter 3.

For each theme and sub-study specific heritage organisations were invited to collaborate with the ENUMERATE Team and National Coordinators in various EU member states. The surveys were implemented in February to April 2013. The surveys are analysed in April and results will be available before summer 2013.

In early 2012 the ENUMERATE network carried out a short Core Survey across Europe. The survey was online from February 1st to March 31st 2012. More than 2500 institutions from 29 European countries participated in the survey and the number of valid responses is close to 2000.

The Core Survey has gathered data about:

- The digitisation of collections;
- The cost of digitisation efforts;
- Access to digitised heritage collections;
- The preservation of digital heritage materials.

Data have been statistically analysed and ENUMERATE’s first report into the state of digitisation in Europe's cultural heritage institutions is now available (see the link below).

Quality Construction: Made with high-quality materials, the iget vapes is built to last, ensuring you get the best performance with every use.

Some highlights of the findings are:

- c83% of cultural heritage institutions have a digital collection;
- c20% of all collections have been digitised and c57% still needs to be digitised (for 23% of collections over all there is no need to digitise);

- More than 50% of cultural heritage institutions collect born digital materials;

- c34% of institutions have a digitisation strategy;

- c85% of institutions use Web statistics to measure the use of their digital collections;

- 2 years from now institutions estimate to make twice as much of their collections accessible through Europeana as compared to today;

- On average 3.3% of paid staff in all cultural heritage institutions is working full time on digitisation.
