10) A museum is a non-profit organisational unit the aim of which is to collect and preserve natural and cultural heritage, both tangible and intangible, to inform about the values and contents of its collections, to promote fundamental values of the Polish and world history, science and culture, to develop cognitive and aesthetic sensitivity and provide access to the collected holdings. (The Act on Museums of 21 November 1996)
11) Data refer to the museums that took part in the study of Central Statistical Office of Poland (including branches). Number of museums without branches at the end of 2023 according to the list of Ministry of Culture and National Heritage: 1045.
12) In Poland division is based on the type of governance. And governing authority is responsible for choosing head of institution - director. Directors report to the governing authority.
